During the past three days a group of 5 students from grade 9 went to the US embassy to participate at the Project Citizen. In Project Citizen:
Students develop skills to identify public problems.
Students investigate the problem through primary and secondary research for existing and actually identify the different causes and affective factors.
Students locate and evaluate public policies and laws related to this problem and then design a systemic solution to solve the public problem, especially if it involves the creation of new laws / ordinances or revision of existing ones.
Students present convincingly the solution to a mayor or a public officer to approve this.
Students typically identify issues related to transportation, crime, recreational areas, public health and environment (such as landscaping or animal welfare).
